Step into summer at stunning Sandy Hollow with a guided interpretive hike and seed collection event on Saturday, July 18 at the Dixon Waterfowl Refuge. Join TWI staff for what is sure to be a beautiful summer Saturday afternoon as we celebrate the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission’s dedication of Sandy Hollow as an Illinois nature preserve buffer. We’ll meet at the Sandy Hollow parking lot and enjoy a roughly 2-mile round trip guided nature hike and then collect native seeds to be used in the site’s restoration.
Bring your own water bottle and we'll provide snacks and the tools needed for seed collection. Please wear appropriate clothing for hiking in nature (e.g., long pants, closed-toe shoes, sun hat, and weather appropriate layers). Children 16 years old or younger must be accompanied by a parent or other chaperone.
Meet at 1pm at the Sandy Hollow parking lot at the south end of the Refuge. Click here for a map of the Dixon Refuge, located just south of Hennepin, Illinois, off Route 26.
Please email twi@wetlands-initiative.org if you plan to attend.
