Chicago River Day Volunteer Plug Planting at Indian Ridge Marsh

  • Indian Ridge Marsh 11740 South Torrence Avenue Chicago, IL, 60617 United States (map)

Join TWI and Friends of the Chicago River for a volunteer plug planting event at Indian Ridge Marsh on Saturday, May 9. Volunteers will assist with planting small, native seedlings to aid in the continued restoration of this site. May 9 is also World Migratory Bird Day, so stick around after the work is done to join us on a guided bird walk around the site!

Children eight years old and up are eligible to volunteer with a guardian. Younger family members are welcome to observe provided they are supervised by an adult. Volunteers who register before Friday, May 1 will receive a Chicago River Day T-shirt highlighting this year’s featured creature, the Virile Crayfish.

Please register here if you plan to attend.

This event is part of Chicago River Day, an annual watershed-wide day of volunteering organized by Friends of the Chicago River that takes place at over 80 sites including city parks, forest preserves, school yards, and businesses along the banks of the Chicago-Calumet River system and its tributaries. At most sites, volunteers pick up trash, though volunteers may help with additional stewardship activities at some locations like removing invasive plants and trail maintenance, depending on the needs of the site.
